Hawke is the nom de plume of a substantially well-placed Design & Internet Professional who has been actively online since 1993. He was on the pioneering wave of Internet development through the mid-90's, established a Dot-com in 1998 (only to have it liquidated in 2000 as one of the first dot-coms to bite the dust), and worked on numerous projects across all facets of Design and multimedia interests. He's also used the screen-names Zephyr, Arkhangel, and Fusebox.

Currently located in Milwaukee, WI, he continues his work in the Internet -related fields, with expertise shown in website crafting (he dispises the term "web designer", since these folks are usually poorly trained hacks working with tinker-toys), multimedia development, and computer & network outfitting. He is also an Environmental Designer (AKA Environmental Graphics), working alongside architects and interior designers to create interactive, usable spaces.

[edit] In MUSH Terms

The player behind Doron Rtufo (or Tuf as he's called by everyone else) first logged onto this MUSH in October 1993, and the character has been in constant, continuous use ever since. The character survived 3 MUSH crashes and 2 database rebuilds. The player has been an integral part of the "look and feel" of the MUSH — Most of Caspia is the result of his and a few other select players' efforts. He used to be "employed" as a "MUSH Painter", sent around to newly built rooms and objects to describe them in illustrative language and terms. The website, too, can be attributed to him, with construction done in 1998-1999, and his ongoing role as an administrator here on the new Wiki-based site.

[edit] Questions for Admin

  1. Why do you want to become an administrator?
To bash vandals on de' head. Really. There isn't any special power or privilege to the role of Wiki-admin that can't be accomplished as a common user, save one — banning those @$$hats that think messing with information is fun.
  2. In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
A textual crossing-guardian. You step out into traffic to clear the way for all the little kiddies to cross the street and go about their lives of fun and frivolity.
On SW1ki, though, the role of a wiki administrator takes on a greater degree of importance in that we have to preserve the integrity of the MUSH (game), the/any content put on the wiki by the slew of users, and protect the "sanctity" of Star Wars canon-ness in something dubbed "canon integrity". We also have to know this wiki backwards and forwards, or not let something sneak past (malicious code, advertising, vandalism, etc.).
  3. In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
Technical first, with a dash of political thrown in for flavor.
  4. How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
No differently than if person in question was a common user. In fact, an admin should utilize their power to serve, or at the behest, of the users far more often than doing so preemptively. Actions should be public and transparent. With a wiki, though, that is by default anyway.
  5. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
  6. Of your articles or contributions to the SW1ki, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
  7. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
Bashing vandals. Banning spammers. Fixing "mis-creations", moving pages & fixing links. Making sure anything posted doesn't violate policy, is correct, and is appropriate to Item #2.
  8. How important is it for you to be involved in things that involve discussion and voting?
  9. Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
Without sounding like I'm ignoring or skirting the question, I strongly feel that both the current Wiki-admins and the screening process in place to acquire more, don't exhibit that tendency or behaviour. I don't think it's an issue.
  10. Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
  11. If you could change any one thing about the SW1ki, what would it be?
The perception held by a portion of the playerbase that the Wiki is some kind of voodoo-magical thing that is superfluous and unnecessary. The wiki should be the compendium — the resource guide for the MUSH.
  12. What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
  13. Have you ever held a staff position on Star Wars MUSH?
Yes. I was the webmaster, archiver, and a coder's lackey. I consider this Wiki-admin position an extension of my prior archiving duties, but much easier, because now, I don't have to chase down users to cough up content and do all the work for them. Also, I don't have to wait on some lazy-slow server admin to grant me access to the webserver or install changes — revisions can be made by anyone, at any time, with those changes viewable instantly. Whee!
  14. What are your views on the relationship between the MUSH and the SW1ki?
