Taikrete is a construction concrete comprised of the otherwise useless soil of the planet Tairoa and an imported catalyst resin. When cured, it is dense and resistant to noxious vapors, such as ammonia, penetrating it. The invention and use of taikrete is only thing allowing the Caspian Democratic Union to build habitable structures on the abrasive planet. Every other material exposed to Tairoa's conditions has failed in some manner.
Walls nearly a meter thick are erected, then a roof of taikrete-encased durasteel is fused on top. The building is then sealed, purged, and environmentally balanced, allowing for habitation.
Several hundred tons of taikrete were exported to the New Republic in a commercial deal around the time of Ord Mantell's rebuilding and expansion period in 15 ABY.
