Nak Shimor was a planet that saw average traffic and settlement in the Colonies. It became a frequently-utilized waystation on the Perlemian Trade Route, due to its proximity to Carida. Vultans came to colonize the world at an undisclosed time during the days of the Old Republic.
In 14 ABY, with the fall of Chandrila and its neighboring systems to the Empire during the Imperial Blitzkrieg, Nak Shimor found itself as one of the most important worlds in the New Republic. Reinforced by no less than three New Republic divisions and several dozen planetary turbolasers, the planet's populace was ordered to hold out at all costs. Numerous attempts at running the blockade down the PTR to Coruscant were initiated here and there was a sizeable cache of supplies and weapons in makeshift warehouses.
As the weeks wore on, the Empire closed in on and overtook Coruscant, leaving Nak Shimor as the furthest protrusion into Imperial space. This became known as the Nak Shimor Salient.
