"The Glowing Ember, pulled from the grasp of Solus, to shine amongst the expanse of Emptiness..."
— A Mergani saying

Mergansar is the second planet orbiting Solus in the Caspian system, and is the birthplace and homeworld of the Sarian species. It is reputed to be a planet "in perfect balance" with all the elements, with equal amounts of landmass versus waterways. The atmosphere is slightly thin, but very hospitable, and winds of varying degrees swirl lazily about. The planet has an unusually high amount of iron and mineral content, and as such, its terrain exhibits a reddish hue while the waters possess an ever-so-slight tint of blue-violet or blue-green to them (depending on the time of day and location of the body of water).

In Sarian, Mergansar means pulled from the star or origin.

[edit] History

[edit] Geography

The planet is much like most other inhabited worlds, with an even mix of plains, marshes, hills, mountain ranges, and bodies of water. The distribution of these features, though, is a bit odd in that while they do blend together, they seem to concentrate in their own distinct zones, or regions, on the landscape.

Oceans and bodies of water aside, the southern plains, hills, and ranges are the most spacious. This is the region of Janhov, and is responsible for most of the Sarians' agrarianism.

[edit] Ethnicity

Coinciding with the regional zones, Mergansar is cut into ethnic divisions as well. For example, the Eireasari keep primarily to the northern Highlands and Vales. There is some, but not much, blending of peoples or transplantation from one region to another. Most of non-Sarian heritage are concentrated around a handful of urban centers, and are rarely seen elsewhere.

Ethnic traditions and style saturate the look and feel of the various regional zones as well.

[edit] Cities

Vilarasala, or Residence of the Heart, is appropriately the capital of this spiritually rich world. It is the sole settlement of significance for the Eireasari people, and they govern the Sarian culture with great conviction from this site. The most "Caspian" city is the heavily modernized Hammerton, and it acts as the "interface" for the planet in its intergalactic dealings. Most non-Sarians reside here.

The cities of Spanner, Gelsefehav, and Neosuhas are Casohavi, and thus, have an air of galacticism that many find gaudy and outlandish. Gelsefehav hosts one of the two universities on Mergansar. Ithaca is, by all accounts, an extremely attractive city with traditional Meditersari style and culture while keeping modern amenities disguised and hidden. Anphora has become a city of artisans, while the Caspian military maintains Toresta as its main base of operations and staffing on the planet.

The Janhovi settlement of Hebron is one of Mergansar's most dynamic cities, with it placed as an integral transportation hub. It acts as a gateway between the plains and steppes of the southern hemisphere and the populated regions of the north. Goshen is little more than a large town amongst numerous farm settlements, but nonetheless active. Lastly, the city of Charon is reputed to be the prototype for Caspar's Noques Rasala, as both cities have a spooky air of mysticism about them.

[edit] Business & Industry

Most of Mergansar's products and services are internal, and stay amongst the native population. A few small, niche businesses do produce some marketable wares for the galactic community, but everything must interface through the cities of Hammerton and Toresta.
