Group Captain

Group Captain is a military rank usually given charge of an entire group. It is almost always associated with members of a starfighter corps, most notibly the Imperial Starfighter Corps. These are often seasoned officers who reported to a commander of a task force for all matters related to flight operations throughout the group.

In the Imperial Starfighter Corps, a Group Captain generally commanded an entire group. A typical group would consist of several wings depending on the task force assembled. A group held at least 4 wings and at a minimum had 288 ships, 480-1200 officers, and 720-2160 enlisted. They were addressed as captain. If a group had more than one Group Captain, one would be appointed Group Captain and the other Group Executive Officer. If appointed as a staff officer they would act as an assistant to a Fleet Commodore.
A Group Captain was the equivalent to a Captain in the Imperial Navy.
