Constables are the law enforcement and peacekeeping officers within Union territory. They are not affiliated with any aspect of the Union military — Navy, Army, or otherwise. They often concede armed enforcement to the Army or Union Marines, and as such, may be seen in the company of them on such endeavours, but this is rare. More often than not, they are investigating and enforcing matters of domestic activity and trade.
For many visitors to Union worlds, a constable is the first uniformed being they see. Due to recent galactic events, constables regulate traffic and shipping laws in and out of Union starports. They conduct inspections (sometimes with Provincial Army units assisting) and even track down and apprehend violators.
The Constabulary is a Rautheran contribution to the Union, as that world employs them as civil officers alongside military units.
