Bonadan is a strip-mined planet at the end of the Hydian way and boasting ten gigantic spaceports was the chief port world of the Corporate Sector. Heavily polluted, its species-diverse population are densely concentrated around industrial centers. Bonadanians found off-world were typically either from wealthy corporate families, or those that had escaped a life of corporate servitude.
In 23 ABY it became the primary base of operations for the forces of Lord Aldus Thel, the master of the secret Neo-Imperial movement.
History[]
Government[]
Weapons are prohibited on Bonadan and weapons detectors are virtually omnipresent. Possession without a license is grounds for immediate arrest. Arrivals at the starports are thoroughly scanned before being allowed access to the planet.
Like much of the Corporate Sector, the government on Bonadan is intensely corrupt, usually increasing the higher it goes - the credit rules here and those with the money to "expedite procedure" are virtually immune to its regulations.
Geography[]
From space, Bonadan is a yellow sphere covered with rust-red strips. It looks barren and parched, for whatever plant life not deliberately destroyed subsequently perished due to careless mining operations, abundant pollutants and simple neglect.
Bonadan's yellow, parched surface is heavily eroded, its topsoil destroyed by constant drilling and construction. The remaining surface was covered with factories, refineries, docks, and shipbuilding facilities focused around one of its ten spaceports, the largest being Bonadan Spaceport Southeast II.
A massive weather-control station was used to generate sweeper storms designed to clean the polluted air, producing foul smelling rain. This measure maintains the habitability of Bonadan but pollution remains widespread.
Demographics[]
Bonadan is remarkably diverse; a small-majority human population coexists with all manner of aliens. The vast majority of Bonadanians are poor, virtually indentured servants their otherwise significant wages sapped by steep charges for corporate-provided housing and food and the remainder drained from them by local taxes and creative surcharges.
Bonadan's position as the chief port world of the Corporate Sector ensures that for some, it is extremely lucrative, particularly mid-level administrators. Those who profit most from the backbreaking oppression and widespread destruction of the world would not deign to dwell in such a place.
Long-term residents frequently contract 'the Bonadan Cough' a mildly contagious virus whose symptoms are a hoarse cough and deep fatigue.
Economy[]
Bonadan's domestic economy is focused on the extraction of minerals and precious metals and their subsequent refinement into fuel and building-grade materials. It also extracts vast wealth from the heavy rate of shipping through the system and Bonadan's starports. All manner of charges from import and export duties to storage, inspection fees, licenses and other means of squeezing every last credit out of traders is offset by the tremendous convenience of its location and facilities - Bonadan's administrators are careful to ensure it remains profitable for commerce to flow through Bonadan, by not by much.
